Born October 27, 1966; 40 years old. As a 12-year-old he made his first appearance in the national championship of India; in 1983 he won the title for the first time. He became IGM in 1991. Barua plays an important role in the development of chess talents in India. Last summer he was also in the Netherlands. In the Open Dutch in Dieren he scored 5/9 like Vincent Rothuis. Shortly after, he attained 5th place, scoring 7/9 in Vlissingen, in a field of strong grandmasters.
